How to Install a Dash Camera

Let us guide you through the installation process, we will have you on the road in no time.

It is important that your Dash Camera is fitted, installed and setup correctly and not obstructing your view of the road. When done properly it can be left alone to capture footage as you drive, without the need to continually adjust or reposition the camera. If your Dash Camera isn’t fitted properly, you may not get the footage you need in the event of an incident or accident.

This guide will help make sure you get yours set up right the first time.

Where to mount your dash cam?

The dash camera must be fitted behind the rearview mirror, in the centre of your windscreen, while not obstructing your line of sight. This ensures you capture both lanes ahead and the road and street signage on either side.

Examine the best location behind your rearview mirror to install your dash camera using the included mount. Once you have identified the correct position, mount it firmly using the suction or adhesive mount provided. Your dash camera will also come with a power lead, which needs to be installed. You can position the power lead around the edge of your windscreen before trailing it to the 12V charging port (cigarette lighter). Don’t plug it in directly, leaving the cable hanging down and getting in the way. This can be a distraction while driving and potentially cause an accident. Position it so your vision is clear, and the setup is clean of messy cables and wires.

Test First

It is strongly recommended that you test the dash camera after completing the initial installation. This will allow you to check the footage and ensure that the dash camera is in the ideal position to capture the best footage from the road.

Once you have reviewed the footage (several trial reviews are recommended), make any final adjustments to the dash camera mounting position. You may also make any internal settings changes later if needed. Once completed, you will be ready to enjoy your driving with the added peace of mind that your footage will be recorded and saved in the event of an unforeseen incident or accident on the road.

Hardwire Kit Installation

Your dash camera can be professionally fitted with an optional Hardwire Installation Kit. The Hardwire Installation Kit connects your dash camera directly to your vehicle's onboard electricals via the fuse box. Installation is quite simple for those who are confident in this area; total installation should take no longer than thirty minutes.

Once installed, the dash camera will switch on and off automatically with your vehicle’s ignition. All the wires are hidden under your dashboard, and the 12V charging port (cigarette lighter) is now free for other uses.
